The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS, Washington) is seeking public comment regarding the design and implementation of the successor to the American Health Information Community (AHIC) — a federal advisory body, chartered to make recommendations to the Secretary of HHS on how to accelerate the development of health information technology.
Input from this public comment period will be used to develop a plan for AHIC to transform from a federal advisory committee into an independent public-private partnership, says HHS.
Key elements of the successor are identified in the "American Health Information Community Successor White Paper," July 2007. The final white paper will be available for review and comment at www.hhs.gov/healthit/community/background/AHICsuccessor.html on Aug. 6. The open comment period will take place from Aug. 6 through Sept. 10.
