AmazingCharts.com Inc., a North Kingstown, R.I.-based developer of electronic health record (EHR/EMR) systems, joined the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) in announcing AAFP Physicians Direct, a new service that supports secure, electronic communication between physicians. AAFP physicians will be able to connect to the Surescripts Network for Clinical Interoperability and share information securely through either the new AAFP Physicians Direct web portal or an EHR/EMR such as Amazing Charts.

Built on the Surescripts network, this new AAFP service is part of a larger program to help physicians more easily and securely share health information such as referrals, patient summaries, discharge summaries and lab results when providing their patients' care. By enabling e-prescribing as well as the secure electronic exchange of clinical information, the Surescripts network offers broad support for the meaningful use of EHRs. Taken together, these capabilities help improve health care quality and safety while reducing the cost of care.
