Kansas City, Mo.-based Truman Medical Centers recently introduced "transparency" to its Web site. The newly available information provides consumers with a list of charges associated with medical services, as well as information on the quality of those services.

Currently as many as 32 states have mandated public access to hospital fees for common procedures. However, according to TMC, it is one of the few hospitals in the country to go public with its transparency information without being required by mandate.

The medical center contends that the average hospital charges of approximately 30 standard and frequently performed procedures may be found on the TMC site.
