Presidio Networked Solutions from Presidio Inc. of New York has rolled out its new Video Medical Interpreter (VMI) solution. By combining Cisco Call Manager and Cisco Video Phones from San Jose, Calif.-based Cisco Systems Inc., caregivers and patients can speak with an interpreter over a secure connection that provides both audio and video, bridging language gaps between caregivers and patients.

Caregivers equipped with IP-based videophones offers patients video access to trained medical interpreters, ensuring that the patient and clinician can clearly communicate about medical procedures or services, touts the company.

According to Presidio, its system is built on mobile ‘crash carts,’ which incorporate mobility features such that is can be can be moved from room to room. Presidio’s VMI system automates handling of calls during peak-time demand. If all the interpreters are busy, the company says, calls are placed in a queue and answered in the order received, or according to the requirements of the caller or the language of the interpreter whose skills are needed.
