The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology is restructuring its volunteer work groups, and plans to recruit additional staff to support the development of an expanded certification program for 2008.
Under the new structure, universal electronic health record (EHR) requirements will be addressed by a new EHR Foundation work group.
An additional two groups will focus on developing criteria for emergency department systems and certification criteria for health information networks.
Five new "expert panels" will concentrate on security, privacy, interoperability, and the new expansion areas of children's healthcare and cardiovascular medicine.
Applications for volunteers will be accepted online from April 24 through May 7. The commission will also begin recruiting additional staff members on April 24. Details on positions and how to apply will be online.
