In 2007, nine health information exchanges (HIEs) were contracted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to participate in the Trial Implementation of NHIN, developing and demonstrating core services for secure exchange of a summary medical record, as well as six use cases. Of those nine, six have chosen to use Chicago-based Initiate Systems, Inc.
The six Initiate customers that demonstrated their use cases at the NHIN Forum were as follows:
· CareSpark, a RHIO in the Appalachian region, which demonstrated Medication Management and Consumer Empowerment use cases.
· Long Beach Network for Health, which demonstrated its EHR-Lab Results and Quality use cases.
· New Mexico Health Information Collaborative, operated by Lovelace Clinic Foundation, which is demonstrating its Summary Patient Record use case.
· New York eHealth Collaborative through several New York Regional Health Information Exchanges, which demonstrated its Medication Management and Quality use cases.
· North Carolina Healthcare Information and Communications Alliance, Inc., which demonstrated its Consumer Empowerment: Consumer Access to Clinical Information using PHRs use case.
· West Virginia Health Information Network, which demonstrated its Consumer Empowerment and EHR Lab Results use cases.
