David Kibbe, M.D., principal of The Kibbe Group LLC (Pittsboro, N.C.), has been named chairman of the West Conshohocken, Pa.-based ASTM International Committee E31 on Healthcare Informatics.
Kibbe helped develop the standard E2369, Specification for Continuity of Care Record, which utilizes XML for interoperable health information exchange, and chairs Subcommittee E31.35 Healthcare Data Analysis.
His previous experience includes teaching informatics in the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, co-writing The AMA’s Field Guide to HIPAA Implementation, and serving as founding director of the Center for Health Information Technology for the American Academy of Family Physicians from 2002 to 2006.
Kibbe received his B.A. from Harvard University, his M.D. from Case-Western Reserve University School of Medicine and his M.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin.
ASTM International Committee E31 on Healthcare Informatics is one of 138 technical standards writing committees. The 300-member ASTM committee develops standards related to the architecture, content, storage, security, confidentiality, functionality and communication of information used within healthcare and healthcare decision making.
