The Baltimore-based Maryland Health Care Commission (MHCC) has selected MedcomSoft Inc. (Atlanta, Ga.) from a group of 2007 Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT) providers to participate in the Maryland EHR adoption acceleration program.
MMHC, in collaboration with the Maryland and DC Medical Societies, was one of 12 communities commissioned by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid for the upcoming EHR Demonstration project. The Maryland/DC collaborative is currently in Phase One of implementation.
According to the organization, the EHR demonstration will be operational for a 5-year period. The first year will provide payments to participating practices based on CCHIT-certified EHR functionalities used to manage the care of patients, with higher payment for more sophisticated healthcare IT use. MHCC will provide information to medical organizations, associations, facilities, and physician practices to promote the program and assist physicians in the transition to EHRs, it says.
