The new academic medical facility that will house the Los Angeles, Calif.-based Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA and the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA has opened its doors for patient care following a relocation of more than 275 hospital patients and 60 psychiatric patients to the new structure.
The move involved the transportation of both acute and critical-care patients by shuttle, ambulance and mobile intensive-care unit, with appropriate medical staff support, according to the medical center. The hospitals’ emergency services choreographed the closing and opening of the old and new emergency departments with a 5 a.m. switchover.
The 1 million-plus-square-foot, 10-story structure is situated on four acres on the UCLA campus.
