CynergisTek (Austin, Texas), a provider of IT security services and solutions for healthcare organizations, has announced that its co-founder and CEO, Mac MacMillan, has been selected as Chair of the Chicago-based Health Information Management Systems Society’s (HIMSS) Privacy and Security Steering Committee, effective July 1, 2010.
As Steering Committee Chair, MacMillan will work closely with HIMSS members to provide oversight and strategic direction for HIMSS projects, policies and other matters relating to privacy and security issues associated with the exchange and storage of electronic health information. MacMillan has been involved with various HIMSS committees since 2007; first as the Chairperson of the HIMSS Information Systems Security Work Group (ISSWG) and most recently as an active member of the Privacy and Security Committee.
For more than 25 years, MacMillan has served in senior level positions in the security/risk management industry. Before co-founding CynergisTek, MacMillan serviced as the National Director for Information Security at CTG. Prior to that, he was the Senior Vice President of E-Security Business Development for Dolphin.com. MacMillan also held the position of Director of Security for two Department of Defense agencies and the Designated Accreditation Authority for multiple sensitive worldwide networks and information systems. MacMillan also served in the United States Marine Corps as a Lieutenant Colonel and Intelligence Officer.
