Operator of general acute-care hospitals, Community Health Systems Inc. (CHS) of Franklin, Tenn., has chosen athenahealth Inc. of Watertown, Mass., to replace its practice management and billing systems.

According to athenahealth, CHS will utilize athenaCollector, a physician billing and practice management service solution. The product, the Internet-based business service company says, is a combination of software, claims knowledge and business services designed for office automation, billing and tracking.

CHS currently owns or operates more than 125 hospitals in 28 states, and says it is the largest publicly-traded hospital company in the United States and an operator of general acute care hospitals in non-urban and mid-size markets throughout the country.
