Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI), a nonprofit organization based in Denver, has named Michael O’Rourke as senior vice president and CIO.

O’Rourke, who served as interim CIO since August of 2007, will head up an IT enterprise that includes about 850 people working in 77 facilities across 20 states. According to the organization, the IT structure that he helped transform as interim CIO includes an enterprise program management office and business intelligence function, and has saved millions of dollars for CHI.

A veteran of more than 25 years in the healthcare technology field, O’Rourke previously held the CIO role at Triad Hospitals Inc. and was vice president of clinical and regulatory IT strategies for Catholic Healthcare West. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California at Davis and a Master of Business Administration degree from North Central University in Prescott, Ariz.

CHI is a faith-based system that includes 77 hospitals, 40 long-term care, assisted and residential living facilities, and two community health-services organizations. With annual revenues of $8.2 billion, CHI ranks as the nation’s second-largest Catholic health care system.
