Three organizations — HealthBridge (Cincinnati, Ohio), the Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE, Indianapolis) and HealthLINC (Bloomington, Ind.) — are the first in the nation to securely send clinical test results, reports and other data through health information exchanges (HIEs).
According to the organizations, the live exchange will allow the secure electronic exchange of data, reduce duplication, improve efficiency and patient care, and further the nation’s goal to interconnect healthcare.
The HIEs represent some of the largest health information networks in the United States, connecting more than 15,000 physicians, 50 hospitals and 12 million patient records.
In the first phase of the initiative, the IHIE will be sending information to HealthLINC and HealthBridge providers. Full interconnectivity will be implemented by mid-September, they say.
