Medhost (Addison, Texas), a provider of emergency department information systems, is introducing a patient data-sharing capability to facilitate interoperability with hospital information systems (HIS).

With this new capability, patient information recorded in the ED, such as medication allergies, initial admission assessment and home medications, can serve as an information baseline once a patient is admitted, which the company says will eliminate data reentry, decreasing medical errors and ensuring continuity of care.

Two hospitals — Stanly Memorial Hospital in Albemarle, N.C., and Conway Medical Center in Conway, S.C. — have begun sharing patient data between their Meditech HIS and Medhost.
