Increased decision support and information sharing, delivered through technology, will define healthcare in the future, according to speakers at a recently held General Electric Healthcare Summit.
Delos Cosgrove, M.D., president and CEO of the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio, said that measuring quality against best practices and using IT tools for aggregating information and decision support is a key factor in reducing cost, increasing quality and value, and improving service to the patient.
Cosgrove and Bill Nelson, president and CEO of Intermountain Healthcare, a 21-hospital system based in Salt Lake City, Utah, agree that technology advances are driving the push for patient-centered, not doctor-focused care, utilizing multi-disciplinary teams that come together over a disease, not a specialty.
