Taught by Dr. Michael Hogarth, UC Davis faculty member and principal investigator for the California Electronic Death Registration System, the course will cover the components of EHRs, information standards (HL-7), privacy and security standards, information representation (ICD, CPT), terminological systems (SNOMED, LOINC), decision support, and issues concerning adoption and implementation.
It is available as a stand-alone course or as part of the UC Davis Extension Health Informatics Certificate Program, which explores the emerging health informatics field and how the acquisition, storage, retrieval and use of information can play a critical role in enhancing the quality of care, reducing the costs of delivery and addressing population health issues, it says.
The first course in the program, Introduction to Health Informatics, which also begins Sept. 21, is open for enrollment. For more information, call (800) 752-0881 or visit www.extension.ucdavis.edu/healthsci.
