Marc Probst, CIO at Intermountain Healthcare (Salt Lake City) and Paul Tang, M.D., vice president and CMIO at Palo Alto Medical Foundation (Mountain View, Calif.) were among the 13 healthcare industry leaders appointed to the Health Information Technology Policy Committee, a new advisory body established by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
The appointments were announced by Gene Dodaro, Acting Comptroller General and head of the Government Accountability Office (Washington, D.C.). The committee will make recommendations on creating a policy framework for the development and adoption of a nationwide health IT infrastructure, including standards for the exchange of patient information.
Also earning nods were Judith Faulker, CEO and president of Epic Systems Corporation (Verona, Wis.) and Charles Kennedy, M.D., Camarillo, vice president for Health Information Technology at Wellpoint, Inc. (Camarillo, Calif.)
An additional seven members will be appointed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services, the Majority and Minority leaders of the Senate, and the Speaker and Minority leader of the House of Representatives. The President can appoint other members as representatives of relevant federal agencies.
