KLAS, a research firm based in Orem, Utah, has published a report on medical oncology information systems.

According to the KLAS study, at least six clinical vendors are in some stage of development and deployment of an oncology extension to their ordering platforms, or are partnering with a dedicated oncology vendor. It was also revealed that 100 percent of those interviewed said they are using the medical oncology module offered by their vendor, and that 53 percent of respondents reported that the oncology product they use has the functionality they need.

The study found that the blended inpatient/outpatient world that oncology represents is an inherent IT challenge to providers. This dichotomy between the two environments prompted many of the provider requests for this study, says the company.
