HMA Hospitals Adopt Bar Coding

Seventeen Health Management Associates (HMA, Naples, Fla.) hospitals have implemented the Bedside Medication Administration solution from San Diego based-IntelliDOT Corporation.

The hospitals include: Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center (Hartville, S.C.); Crossgates River Oaks Hospital (Brandon, Miss.); River Oaks Hospital and Woman’s Hospital at River Oaks (both in Flowood, Miss.); Davis Regional Medical Center (Statesville, N.C.); Biloxi Regional Medical Center (Biloxi, Miss.); Lehigh Regional Medical Center (Lehigh Acres, Fla.); Walton Regional Medical Center (Monroe, Ga.); Franklin Regional Medical Center (Louisburg, N.C.); Barrow Regional Medical Center (Winder, Ga.); Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center (Greater Haines City, Fla.); Venice Regional Medical Center (Venice, Fla.); Santa Rosa Medical Center (Milton, Fla.); Riverview Regional Medical Center (Gadsden, Ala.); Sebastian River Medical Center (Sebastian, Fla.); Dallas Regional Medical Center (Mesquite, Texas); and Stringfellow Memorial Hospital (Anniston, Ill.).

HMA, which owns and operates 56 acute care hospitals in 15 states with approximately 8,000 licensed beds, has now gone live with bar coding at 41 of its facilities. HMA contracted with IntelliDOT in August 2006 to bring barcode verification of medications to all of its hospitals over a period of three years, says the company.
