Washington-based AHA and Chicago-based AHIMA have sent letters to the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives in support of the adoption of ICD-10, urging them to resist any efforts to delay adoption.

The letter states that ICD-9 is outmoded, and that if implementation doesn’t move forward now, vendors and users will continue to build and buy products — including EHR systems — that cannot handle the upgraded ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding system.
