Hartford, Ct.-based Aetna, a diversified healthcare benefits company, has chosen Eden Prairie, Minn.'s Ingenix to provide it with electronic data interchange (EDI) services.

According to Ingenix, the services — specifically clearinghouse services and next-generation managed EDI services — were designed to enable healthcare providers and other bill submitters to directly transmit data to Aetna.

The five-year agreement will launch Aetna EDI Connect, a free direct-connect Web site that allows providers to directly transmit batch and real-time transactions to Aetna without the need for clearinghouses or third-party intermediaries, says the company.
