Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Healthcare recently selected Draper, Utah-based Code Corporation's line of bar code readers for its new electronic bedside medication administration and reporting system.

Code's wireless and cabled configured products will be implemented throughout Intermountain's 21 Utah and Idaho-based hospitals.

Code claims its readers are able to scan extremely small bar codes on medications, patient wristbands and clinician identification badges. The bar code data is fed wirelessly into a software application that performs a check against the five rights (right medication, right patient, right dose, right time, and right method of administration), prescriptions, and patient records. Subsequently, the program notifies the clinician of any problems before the medicine is dispensed, Code stated.
