KLAS: Expanded Staff and Better IT Can Mean Reduced L&D Risk

Orem, Utah-based KLAS has released its 2008 “Labor and Delivery” report on IT, suggesting that improved patient outcomes and reduced risk in labor and delivery care can occur through expanded staff training and communication, improved fetal monitoring and the availability of prenatal information.

KLAS says its report investigates L&D vendor solutions, and finds that with 43 percent of providers indicating they still lack basic ADT interfaces, providers continue to search for solutions that will integrate with their clinical information systems.

Key report findings included:

* 20 percent are considering replacement of their L&D system.

* 93 percent of overall commentary was positive.

Products included in the study were Clinical Computer Systems OBIX Perinatal Data System, CliniComp Essentris Perinatal, GE Centricity Perinatal (QS), Hill-Rom WatchChild, LMSCALM, McKesson Horizon Perinatal Care, and Philips OB TraceVue.
