The Foundation of Research and Education (FORE) of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) has been awarded a contract by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) to continue its work on a State Level Health Information Exchange Consensus project.

The contract builds on and extends FORE's work in developing emerging best practices and practical tools for state level health information exchange initiatives (HIEs). The project will be guided by a steering committee with the help of the eHealth Initiative (eHI) and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). The contract was signed on February 27, 2007 and will go into effect on March 1, 2007.
