Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius has announced the launch of Healthcare.gov, a new consumer website called for by the Affordable Care Act and designed to keep the public informed of their rights and benefits. Noted features of the site include a timeline of new programs under the Affordable Care Act between now and 2014 and an insurance finder featuring public and private options.
Other features of the website include:
- Approximately 500 pages of content
- Data for more than 1,000 insurance carriers and 5,561 open products (2,030 in the individual health insurance market and 3,531 in the small employer health insurance market)
- Information on every Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program in the country
- Information on the Pre-Existing Condition Plan in every state
Starting in October, 2010, price estimates for health insurance plans will be included online. The site also features options for commenting by users in order to improve its functions.
