David Blumenthal, M.D., National Coordinator of Health IT, announced a proposed rule establishing a temporary certification program for testing and certifying health IT systems in order to meet deadlines for funding under the ARRA-HITECH legislation. Blumenthal made the announcement earlier this week at the Health Information and Management Systems Society conference in Atlanta.

The proposal details a two-part process that would enable health IT vendors initially to receive temporary certification for products in time for providers to meet 2011 deadlines for qualifying for first stage meaningful use requirements.
