The Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), which oversees the state's Medicaid program, has begun implementation of an EHR solution for Medicaid beneficiaries with a pilot project in northern Florida, according to EDS, a Plano, Texas—based provider of Medicaid and Medicare process management services.

The Florida EHR demonstration project is part of an 87-month, $308 million contract AHCA awarded last year for EDS to design, develop and implement a new Medicaid system. The new EDS Florida interChange system is scheduled to go live in 2008.

The pilot will initially create an electronic health record for each Medicaid beneficiary from the Tallahassee-LeonCounty area using data from medical claim records. EDS and AHCA are closely coordinating efforts with the Big Bend Regional Health Information Organization to ensure compatibility with the Big Bend RHIO Health Information Exchange initiative in Tallahassee, Fla.
