Arlington, Va.-based Vangent Inc., a global provider of information management and business process solutions, will upgrade the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)’s Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) to meet Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Electronic Transaction Standards, enabling streamlined third-party health care revenue and payments. Vangent will operate as a key subcontractor to Engineering Services Network Inc. (ESN) under a one-year Veterans Technology Services (VETS) task order valued at $10.9 million if all options are exercised.
HIPAA 5010 requires the healthcare industry to adopt new transactional standards to exchange electronic administrative and financial information between healthcare providers and health plans for patient care services, eligibility inquiries, service authorization, referrals, claims status requests, claims, and remittance advice (claims payment). This requirement will result in substantial changes in the content of the data submitted as well as the data available in response to electronic inquiries. The implementation will require changes to the software, systems, and perhaps procedures used for billing payers. To help the VA meet the latest 5010 requirements and upcoming Jan. 1, 2011 Level I compliance deadline, Vangent will serve as software development technical lead and provide support on the VHA CBO eBusiness projects including eInsurance Verification, eClaims/eMRA, ePharmacy, ePayments, and National Provider Identifier (NPI).
Vangent will operate under prime contractor, Engineering Services Network, Inc. (ESN). Additional team members on the project include Harris Corporation and 7 Delta, Inc.
