Microsoft Unveils Consumer Health Platform

Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft Corporation has launched Microsoft HealthVault, a software and services platform designed to help consumers manage their personal health information, including disease management.

In conjunction, Microsoft has released HealthVault Search, a vertical health search tool designed to work with the platform. Integrated with Live Search (Microsoft's online search engine) and accessible on the HealthVault Web site, Health Vault Search organizes online health content and connects with HealthVault-compatible solutions, says the company.

According to Microsoft, more than 40 companies and organizations are working to make their offerings available on the HealthVault platform, including: Allscripts (Chicago); Eclipsys Corp.(Atlanta); iMedica Corp.(Santa Clara, Calif.); Kryptiq Corp. (Portland, Ore.); Medseek (Solvang, Calif.); New York-Presbyterian Hospital (New York); and NextGen Healthcare Information Systems Inc. (Horsham, Pa.).

Developers interested in building their own HealthVault-based solutions can download the HealthVault software development kit at http://msdn.microsoft.com/healthvault. The HealthVault platform is available to people for free at http://www.healthvault.com.
