The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) has inked a deal with Rochester, N.Y.-based Carestream Health Inc., a provider of dental and medical imaging systems, to supply imaging IT solutions at eight of its hospitals.

Carestream PACS offers a virtual desktop environment that allows authorized users to access any application, including 3-D processing from desktops, says the company. The platform's streaming capabilities reduce the need for large bandwidth network connections, even for viewing of 3-D, cardiac CT and other image files, contends Carestream.

The contract also includes data migration from existing PACS and optional features such as integrated voice dictation, orthopedic surgical templates, and native 3-D viewing of imaging exams.
