Seattle-based Providence Health & Services (PH&S), a 27-hospital network which operates in Ala., Wash., Mont., Ore. and Calif. will begin deploying a system to track high-value hospital assets, say the two companies selected for the project.

For the implementation, PH&S will utilize two companies acting in a partnership: St. Louis-based World Wide Technology Inc. (WWT) as systems integrator and AeroScout Inc.(Redwood City, Calif.), a provider of Wi-Fi-based Active RFID solutions. Together the two will configure, install, train and support a Wi-Fi-based asset tracking and location solution at Providence's Centralia location, say the companies.

Beginning with Centralia, PH&S plans to implement the hospital tracking solution in other facilities across the state of Washington, tracking assets throughout facilities utilizing existing Wi-Fi networks. The company says the first phase of the project will be to track networked devices, such as laptops and tablets.
