Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH), Lexington, Ky., will deploy San Francisco-based McKesson's Horizon Ambulatory Care electronic health record

Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH), Lexington, Ky., will deploy San Francisco-based McKesson's Horizon Ambulatory Care electronic health record (EHR) system in rural communities across eastern Kentucky and West Virginia.

According to McKesson, ARH will use Atlanta-based RelayHealth's network to connect physicians with patients, the hospital, other physicians, and pharmacies. In addition, McKesson contends patients of ARH physicians can request prescription refills and renewals, schedule physician appointments, and receive laboratory results.

ARH is part of McKesson's Connecting Physicians program, which uses hospitals' existing technology infrastructure to help in the adoption of clinical information technology in physician practices, says the company.
