Merge Healthcare, a Milwaukee-based imaging solutions provider, is partnering with Apple (Cupertino, Calif.) to unveil Merge Mobile, an application that will enable patients and clinicians to view CT, MRI, X-ray and other images on an Apple iPhone or iPod touch.

The new technology is designed to help health organizations improve quality of care, reduce costs and improve responsiveness to patients, according to the company. It will enable clinicians to retrieve images and perform standard radiologic manipulations to guide decision-making. Users can also consult with colleagues and forward critical findings directly and securely to a patient’s referring physician, it touts.
