Wayne State University Physician Group (WSUPG) of Detroit is implementing Watertown, Mass.-based athenahealth’s centrally-hosted, on-demand practice management and billing service, athenaCollector.
As part of the company’s software-enabled service, athenaCollector has built in a proprietary knowledge-base of payer reimbursement process rules, athenaRules, which is designed to enforce medical provider office workflow requirements and is continually updated with payer-specific coding and documentation information by athenahealth staff, it says.
In addition, the company claims athenaRules acts as a proactive utility that guides clinic staff away from making billing mistakes that impact operational performance and the overall patient experience.
WSUPG has a network of more than 400 medical providers. The group’s physicians deliver care in several institutions, including the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, the Kresge Eye Institute, and the Crittenton Hospital Medical Center.
