South Nassau Communities Hospital (SNCH) of Oceanside, N.Y., has implemented Waltham, Mass.-based Forerun Inc.’s ED software (which runs on Cambridge, Mass.-headquartered InterSystems Corp.’s Ensemble platform) as part of an effort to enhance care and cut wait time.
SNCH’s 35-bed ED is composed of three separate locations, or ‘pods.’ According to the companies, information displayed on PCs located in each pod and on a large plasma screen that is visible in the urgent care pod provides clinicians with up-to-the-minute data on patient location and condition. In addition to patient data entered at registration, information from the laboratory, radiology and PACS flows into the Forerun ED application as tests are performed and results are available.
South Nassau Communities Hospital is one of the region’s largest hospitals, with 441 beds, more than 875 physicians and 2,600 employees. The hospital is an acute-care, not-for-profit teaching hospital that provides cardiac, oncologic and pain management care, as well as emergency services.
