Jersey City Medical Center, part of the two-hospital LiberyHealth system (Jersey, City, N.J.) has reported significant improvements in response time and patient outcomes since deploying a series of technologies in 2007, according to the organization.

The EMS unit, which responds to nearly 80,000 calls per year, rolled out the following systems:

  • S

    ystem Status Management, which analyzes chronological and geographical demand factors to place ambulances strategically throughout the city;
  • Dynamic Deployment Monitor, which uses GPS and Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to produce live graphical display of emergency vehicles;
  • Impedance Monitor, which leverages analysis to define the speed that vehicles can travel over each road segment to assist field personnel in safely reaching their destination.

Since 2007, the 250-person unit has decreased response time from eight minutes, 24 seconds to five minutes, 20 seconds, it touts. Return of Spontaneous Circulation (ROSC) rates, which indicate circulation is regained during resuscitation of a patient in cardiac arrest, has improved by 73 percent.
