The Office of the National Coordinator for Healthcare Information Technology (ONCHIT) has named the co-chairs and members of two work groups that will create consensus-based definitions and context of use for five HIT terms.

The Records Work Group will focus on electronic health record (EHR), electronic medical record (EMR), and personal health record (PHR). Its co-chairs are John Haughom, M.D., senior vice president, clinical quality and patient safety, PeaceHealth, chair and Donald Mon, Ph.D., vice president, practice leadership, AHIMA, co-chair.

The Networks Work Group will focus on regional health information organization (RHIO) and health information exchange (HIE). Its co-chairs are Bill Bernstein, Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, chair; and Pamela Matthews, R.N., MBA, FHIMSS, senior director business information systems, HIMSS, co-chair.

ONCHIT says the work groups will hold their first meetings on Nov. 30. By March 28, 2008, the work groups will submit their final report.
