Kaplan University's continuing and professional studies program (CAPS) has launched an online Medical Coding Certificate Program.
According to Kaplan, its online program will prepare students to work as entry-level medical coders, a position that requires the conversion of verbal descriptions of diseases, injuries and procedures into codes or numbers that reflect the care patients receive.
Kaplan's non-credit curriculum covers medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacotherapy, health insurance information and intense studying of coding systems, says the university.
Kaplan University, based in Davenport, Iowa, is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA).
