3M Health Information Systems (St. Paul, Minn.) has introduced ICD-10 consulting services, combined with advanced ICD-10 software and analytic tools, to help hospitals take immediate steps to prepare for a successful transition to the new ICD-10 coding standard, scheduled to be implemented nationwide in 2013.
3M’s ICD-10 transition solution includes new releases of the 3M™ DRG Assurance™ Program, 3M’s clinical documentation improvement program, and the 3M™ Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) System, which have been expanded with ICD-10 concepts and terms. The enhanced software and services are designed to help facilities reduce the risk from incomplete or inaccurate documentation.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has set October 1, 2013 as the implementation date for ICD-10, the new national coding standard that will replace ICD-9-CM. Codes based on the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), are used throughout health care to record, store, and retrieve diagnosis and procedure information for clinical, epidemiological and quality purposes, and for reimbursement.
