The Michiana Health Information Network (MHIN) (South Bend, Ind.) announced today that it is among the first HIEs to achieve full accreditation with the Health Information Exchange Accreditation Program (HIEAP) from the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC). EHNAC's HIEAP accreditation recognizes excellence in health information exchange and data processing, and ensures compliance with industry-established standards and HIPAA regulations.
Through the extensive consultative review process, EHNAC evaluated MHIN in areas of privacy and security, technical performance, business practices and organizational resources as it relates to health information exchange (HIE) policies and procedures. In addition, EHNAC reviewed MHIN's process of managing and transferring protected health information and determined that the HIE meets or exceeds all EHNAC criteria and industry standards. Through completion of the rigorous accreditation process, MHIN demonstrates adherence to strict standards and participation in the comprehensive, objective evaluation of its business.
