The Chicago-basedIllinois Health Information Management Association, a professional health information management organization, and the Greater Chicago Chapter of the Healthcare Information Management and Systems Society (HIMSS) are joining forces for Advocacy Day in Springfield, Ill., where they’ll tout and learn more about the use of health information exchanges and EHRs within the state.
The organizations developed this event to learn more about what the State ofIllinoishas planned for using electronic health records and health information technology to improve health outcomes and patient safety, an initiative that began in 2008. This year will be the inaugural event.
“Building our electronic health information exchange is a major step in transforming health care and helping patients. Statewide access to electronic records means that vital patient information will be instantly available to doctors and hospitals when it is needed most, improving health care delivery and saving lives,” Illinois Governor Pat Quinn said in a statement.
The event will feature a panel of state government and health IT leaders to provide insight into eHealth and the important role of the HIE. The interactive discussion offers attendees valuable insight into what’s happening locally and an opportunity to join the discussion.
