Colorado HIE Experiences Triple Digit Growth in 2014

Feb. 6, 2015
The Colorado Regional Health Information Organization (CORHIO) has announced that its network has experienced triple digit growth in 2014.

The Colorado Regional Health Information Organization (CORHIO) has announced that its network has experienced triple digit growth in 2014.

The health information exchange (HIE) organization said that the number of participating healthcare users and data available in the network grew by 111 percent and 118 percent respectively in the past year. This marks the third consecutive year of triple-digit growth rates for the Colorado HIE. There are now 5,705 active providers/users accessing the HIE, 47 hospitals connected, and more than 223 million clinical messages have been sent.

The increase in healthcare provider participation and data exchange in the CORHIO network represents an increase in the number of patients experiencing better healthcare quality and coordination as a result of health information being available to their providers, according to CORHIO officials. The information is helping to improve healthcare providers’ clinical decision making, reducing the number of unnecessary tests and procedures performed, decreasing avoidable hospitalizations and saving money, they say.

"The growth of our health information exchange network is a testament to the strong leadership shown by health care organizations and providers across the state of Colorado," Morgan Honea, CEO at CORHIO, said in the announcement. “Together with our partners and participants, we are building an advanced health information technology infrastructure that will enable one of the most integrated, efficient and effective healthcare systems in the country.”
