Kaiser Permanente, the well-known, Oakland, Calif.-based integrated healthcare system, is opening an IT campus in midtown Atlanta, Ga., which will create approximately 900 jobs.
Kaiser’s new IT campus, 1375 Peachtree Street, will be 157,000 square feet. The organization has not clarified if it will focus on any particular technologies.
“We’re thrilled that Kaiser Permanente is bringing new jobs to Atlanta. Kaiser Permanente recognizes the Atlanta area as the ‘silicon peach’ — one of the fastest growing regions for information technology work,” Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed said in a statement.
Georgia has become somewhat of a hotbed for health IT. It has always had among the highest representation on the HCI100 list of top industry vendors and the Georgia Department of Economic Development is developing programs to make the Peach State a destination for companies in the sector.
Kaiser’s reputation for advancement in technology has been established through the organization’s electronic health record, the largest non-governmental medical record system in the world, and its successful personal health record platform.
