Nevada HIE to Extend Health Data Infrastructure Directly to Consumers
HealtHIE Nevada, a statewide nonprofit health information exchange, is developing a consumer app called HealthRecords Nevada that will give Nevada residents a single, secure place to access, understand, and share their own health information.
The HIE is working in partnership with b.well Connected Health on the effort, which is set to launch this fall.
HealtHIE Nevada connects health data from more than 220 hospitals, clinics, and health systems across the state, supporting millions of patient records across Nevada's healthcare community. The HIE notes that historically, that exchange of information has flowed between providers and payers. With this partnership, HealtHIE Nevada is seeking to extend that infrastructure directly to consumers, giving people across the state a way to see and manage the same connected health information their doctors rely on to better understand their health history and coordinate care.
"People across our state shouldn't have to log into a different portal for every doctor they've ever seen just to piece together their own health history," said Brian G. Rosenberg, executive director of HealtHIE Nevada, in a statement. "We've spent years building the connections that allow health information to move across the state. This partnership lets us take that infrastructure and put it directly in people's hands. It's a natural extension of our mission and our commitment to making health information more accessible and useful to people across Nevada."
HealthRecords Nevada combines HealtHIE Nevada's statewide health information infrastructure and connectivity while b.well will provide identity verification, secure account creation, and tools that allow consumers to retrieve available records from participating providers statewide and through connected national health data networks, without needing separate logins for each provider. Consumers will also have tools to manage sharing preferences within the capabilities supported by the platform.
The partners stress that HealthRecords Nevada is designed to complement, not replace, the patient portals people across Nevada already use for scheduling, prescription refills, bill payment and other provider-specific services.
"HealtHIE Nevada has already built the trusted statewide infrastructure and provider connectivity required to make this possible," said Kristen Valdes, founder and CEO of b.well Connected Health, in a statement. "By combining that foundation with b.well's consumer technology, we can give people across Nevada a more direct and intuitive way to access health information that has historically moved behind the scenes. HealtHIE Nevada is showing what it looks like for a statewide HIE to extend its value directly to the people it ultimately serves.”
