Allscripts paid $235 million for dbMotion, which provides a longitudinal clinical data repository with semantically normalized patient data, point-of-care tools, a physician portal, population tools and an analytics gateway.

Allscripts Healthcare Solutions announced March 5 that it has acquired dbMotion Ltd., an Israeli company that helps aggregate data from diverse settings for population health management efforts.

Chicago-based Allscripts said it paid $235 million for dbMotion, which provides a longitudinal clinical data repository with semantically normalized patient data, point-of-care tools, a physician portal, population tools and an analytics gateway. Allscripts also announced it purchased Jardogs LLC, a patient engagement solution provider, for an undisclosed amount.

“By solidifying our open connectivity strategy and strengthening our patient engagement offerings, we will accelerate information sharing and population health management, enabling better care,” said Paul M. Black, president and CEO of Allscripts, in a prepared statement.

Healthcare Informatics has written on several occasions about dbMotion’s work with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). Starting in 2008, UPMC worked with dbMotion to integrate and aggregate data from more than 25 major clinical systems, such as laboratory test results, problem lists, and documents into a unified structure. The system transforms disparate medical data maintained in different formats and structures at multiple facilities into an integrated patient record.
