In this Healthcare Informatics podcast, Associate Editor Gabriel Perna interviews John Stanley, principal at Impact Advisors. When Stanley was on the podcast last, he talked about analytics as it relates to HIE. In this interview, he focuses on the emerging trend where providers and other stakeholders are using analytics and health IT to try and link clinical, genomic and even financial data.

Stanley says the onset of population health management strategies is why the marriage between clinical, financial, and genomic data makes all the sense in the world. Genomic data, he says, takes traditional predictive analytics to the next level.

“[With genomic data] we are able to further predict the potential outcomes and therefore, the preventative strategies around distinct populations or distinct individuals,” Stanley says. He adds the next world of care management involves a high level of personalized medicine.

In addition, Stanley talks about how analytics can be used to improve public health reporting. In a way, this is a circle becoming complete with population health management. “All of this started in the public health sense, but they never had the data available to them that was captured in the private space,” he says.

Finally, Stanley discusses how analytics capabilities are changing so that they can predict and determine outcomes before they happen, rather than looking at something retrospectively.
