New research from the Burlington, Vt.-based CapSite looked at the medical device integration (MDI) market, indicating that 54 percent hospitals are looking to purchasing MDI solutions. Of those hospitals, 40 percent say quality improvement is the primary reason for this investment.

The study, 2012 U.S. Medical Device Integration (MDI) Study, has insight from more than 300 hospitals on the market opportunity and vendor market share across the U.S.  It looked at such MDI vendors as Capsule, Cerner, CPSI, Draeger, Epic, Fukuda Denshi, GE, Healthland, HMS, iSirona, McKesson, Meditech, Mindray, Nihon Kohden, Nuvon, Siemens, Spacelabs, Welch, and Allyn.

“Our study clearly shows that the MDI market has been very active over the past two years as provider organizations have made investments to connect their Electronic Health Records (EHRs) with a variety of medical devices across their organization.   Additionally, we expect the adoption of MDI solutions to continue to accelerate over the next two years as more than half of U.S. hospitals plan to purchase new MDI solutions.” says CapSite senior vice president, Gino Johnson, said in a statement.
