The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Health Plan has introduced a new mobile application, allowing members to view and download personal health record (PHR) to a smartphone. The app also gives members access to their virtual ID cards, contact information for recently visited providers from a personalized list, and it gives them the ability to check the status of their claims, and to view flexible spending account balances.
"Our members will enjoy having access – right at their fingertips – to a tool that helps address their health insurance needs," Kim A. Jacobs, vice president of product & consumer innovation for UPMC Health Plan, said in a statement. "And members will have the added advantage of being able to take care of health matters when and where they want to – while waiting for a bus, for instance – with no need to be sitting in front of a computer."
The app is available for iPhone, Android, and Blackberry 6+. UPMC Health Plan says updates to the app will be released regularly and will include the features that are most requested from members. It will also be available to non-members who can use it to shop for individual insurance, search the UPMC Health Plan network for providers, or contact customer service. Only members can sign use it for PHR purposes, however.
