eClinicalWorks Joins Growing List of TEFCA QHINs

Jan. 16, 2025
“We anticipate TEFCA-based exchange will continue to accelerate this year and are excited to add eClinicalWorks to an increasingly deep roster of QHINs,” says Micky Tripathi, Ph.D., assistant secretary for technology policy

Ambulatory EHR vendor eClinicalWorks has been designated as a Qualified Health Information Network (QHIN) under the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA), which is being set up to enable the nationwide exchange of electronic health information (EHI) across disparate health information networks.

In achieving QHIN status, eClinicalWorks joins eHealth Exchange, Epic Nexus, Health Gorilla, Konza, MedAllies, Kno2, and Commonwell Health Alliance. Two organizations, Surescripts and Netsmart, have completed the QHIN application and have been accepted into the project planning and testing phase of the onboarding and designation process.

The Westborough, Mass.-based company says that 180,000 providers and nearly 1 million medical professionals rely upon the eCW Cloud for clinical documentation, front-office workflows and billing.

PRISMANet is the eClinicalWorks QHIN solution, which aims to drive improved patient outcomes through interoperability and ensure providers have the most complete patient information at the point of care.

“Obtaining QHIN designation is a terrific achievement for eClinicalWorks and reflects our commitment to advancing nationwide interoperability and delivering cutting-edge solutions that simplify secure health data exchange and empower patients,” said Girish Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks, in a statement. “With access to a wealth of comprehensive patient information at the point of care, healthcare professionals can make better data-driven decisions.”

“Network-to-network interoperability through TEFCA went live a little more than a year ago, and since then, millions of transactions have taken place,” said Micky Tripathi, Ph.D., assistant secretary for technology policy and national coordinator for health information technology, in a statement. “We anticipate TEFCA-based exchange will continue to accelerate this year and are excited to add eClinicalWorks to an increasingly deep roster of QHINs who are central to fueling that growth.”

“At eClinicalWorks, we understand that seamless data exchange is essential to improving patient care outcomes,” said Tushar Malhotra, director of interoperability strategy at eClinicalWorks, in a statement. “QHIN designation will help us further advance our interoperability goals for providers nationwide. eClinicalWorks looks forward to continuing its work and collaborating with HHS, the ASTP, and the RCE [Recognized Coordinating Entity] to onboard participants and being TEFCA ready.”
