Government Declares Monkeypox Public Health Emergency; Texas Health Services Authority's George Gooch on Interoperability's Future

HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra announced on Aug. 4 that he will declare the ongoing spread of monkeypox virus in the United States a Public Health Emergency (PHE). A press release from HHS states that “This action will further strengthen and accelerate the Biden-Harris Administration’s response in recognition of the continued rapid transmission of monkeypox in the U.S. and globally, and to signal the seriousness and urgency with which the Administration is responding."
CEO George Gooch spoke recently with Healthcare Innovation regarding the Texas Health Services Authority’s advancement in numerous areas around health information exchange and interoperability. He shared the latest in a recent interview.
Mount Sinai Health System and the Nashville, Tenn.-based Contessa, an Amedisys company and home-based care provider, have announced that theyare combining Mount Sinai South Nassau’s home health agency into their existing joint venture. The new offering, called Mount Sinai at Home, will offer home health, hospitalization at home, rehabilitation at home (vs. care at a nursing facility), and palliative care at home, in the New York metro area.
